Humanities Choice Period
On Thursdays, from 10:30 to 11:10, half of the class will go to guitar lessons with Erika, and the other half will be here in 407. Halfway through the year (usually the beginning of February) the groups will switch.
When you are in 407, the period will be used as a Humanities Choice period, which means you will be doing things related to social studies, literature, or writing. On some days you might have a choice between two or three options, on other days there might be fewer choices. You will have a few minutes to decide what you will work on, but most of your time between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM should be spent working. Eventually you will know what most of the options mean and can simply get to work.
Choice options might include: reading and responding to poetry, exploring photos, looking at recommended websites, reading the newspaper, writing in response to given prompts, etc.
The last ten minutes of each period (11:00 AM to 11:10 AM) will be spent sharing what you worked on during the period. You might share something you have read, written, or learned. Each week I will start with volunteers to share, and we will take as many as we can in the ten minutes. If you have not shared in a while, I might require that you do so.
This period is an exercise in independence, self-motivation, and focus. If, for whatever reason, you are not fully participating, some of the privileges allowed will be taken away.
This period will NOT be used for completing homework or filing except for very special circumstances.
If you have suggestions for options or themes please let me know in the comment box below!
