Part One: Bar Graphs on the Computer
Today you will create a bar graph using Excel.
- Go to Excel (It should be on the dock at the bottom of your laptop, if it is not, look at the magnifying glass and search for Excel)
- Open new spreadsheet if necessary
- Begin filling in the data. The example below is not your data.

4. Highlight all of the data.
5. Go up to the top and select INSERT--CHART.
6. Select Bar or Column.
7. Select a graph that will show both the Principal and the Interest values.
8. Click on your chart – Select -CHART (at the top of the screen)– MOVE CHART –NEW SHEET (this will move the chart to a new sheet of paper)
9. Open the Toolbox on the top right corner of your window.
10. Go to Chart Options, click the toggle switch.
a. Make a title by filling in the box.
b. Label each axis by clicking on the horizontal and vertical axis buttons in the Title options
c. Check your legend or key and decide where you want your key.
d. You can add values if you want to by clicking on VALUES.
e. You can add a data chart if you want to by clicking on DATA
f. Format as you wish - You may not change the background of your graph; it must be white
11. Look over graph:
a. Do you have a Chart Title?
b. Do you have a title for each axis?
c. Do you have a legend?
d. Have you used correct spelling and punctuation?
